Halftime in Life: Embracing Reflection and Purpose for My Next Half

Life often feels like a game with quarters, moments where we pause, catch our breath, and prepare for what comes next. In sports like AFL and NRL, halftime is more than just a break. It’s a chance to review, adjust, and refocus before the most critical part of the game begins. I find myself at a similar halftime in life—not in crisis, but in a space where reflection and visualisation can shape the next chapter. This post explores how embracing this halftime mindset can help you live with purpose and intention, even if the path ahead is not yet clear.

What Halftime Means in Sports and Life

In AFL, halftime signals the start of the premiership quarter—the biggest and most decisive part of the game. Players use this time to review mistakes, adjust their timing, and mentally prepare to give their best. Similarly, in NRL, halftime is when players listen to their coach’s feedback, good or bad, while catching their breath. They mentally replay the game, asking themselves where they can improve and what changes they need to make.

Life’s halftime works the same way. It’s a moment to pause, look back on what has happened, and plan how to move forward. Walking the Camino for me isn’t about dwelling on regrets but about learning and setting intentions for the next phase of my life. To live my life with purpose rather than governed by circumstances.

The Power of Reflection

Reflection is more than just thinking about the past. It’s an active process of reviewing your experiences to understand what worked, what didn’t, and why. For me I have made reflection meaningful through action but it’s different for everyone

Walking the Way: A Personal Journey of Half-Time Reflection

I choose to walk from France to Spain as a way to embrace my halftime. This journey, inspired by the famous pilgrimage known as “The Way,” offers time for quiet reflection and physical movement. Walking allows the mind to wander and focus simultaneously, creating space for insights and clarity.

This personal pilgrimage is not about having all the answers but about being present in the process of discovery. Something that I haven't been very good at to date.

So here is to my half time and all the adventures it will bring.

Brooke
